GLVAR members donate nearly $30,000 to 13 local charities

Members of the Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors donated nearly $30,000 last week to 13 local charities as part of their ongoing contributions to the community.

On Dec. 13, members of GLVAR’s Young Professionals Network donated nearly $10,000 to host a holiday party for St. Jude’s Ranch for Children. The group provided food and refreshments, entertainment and a visit from Santa. Donations from GLVAR’s YPN members also fulfilled the holiday gift wishes of 41 local children served by St. Jude’s.

One day earlier, GLVAR President Heidi Kasama said GLVAR presented $20,000 worth of checks to 12 different local charities during a Dec. 12 breakfast at its headquarters at 1750 E. Sahara Ave.

Charities were selected by a committee of GLVAR leaders based on need and the services they provide to Southern Nevadans in need. Charities receiving donations include:

■ Big Brothers, Big Sisters — $1,500

■ Catholic Charities — $1,500

■ Family &Child Treatment — $1,000

■ Foreclosed Upon Pets — $1,000

■ Nevada Homeless Alliance — $3,000

■ Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth — $3,000

■ Pet Awareness &Welfare Services — $1,000

■ Project 150 — $2,000

■ The Shade Tree — $1,000

■ Street Teens — $3,000

■ Walter Hoving Home — $1,000

■ Safe Nest — $1,000

GLVAR was founded in 1947 and provides its more than 11,500 local members with education, training and political representation.

State Realtors group members complete leadership program

The Nevada Association of Realtors announced that 13 of its members completed its Leadership NVAR 2014 program and were recognized during a graduation ceremony held Dec. 5 at the Peppermill Resort in Reno.

This marks the program’s 15th annual graduating class, according to 2014 NVAR President Kolleen Kelley, of Las Vegas.

The comprehensive program is designed to identify emerging leaders and help them sharpen their leadership skills through a series of workshops held throughout the year.

She said Realtors who graduate from this program “exemplify effective leadership skills.”

Participation in LeadershipNVAR includes four multiple-day workshops throughout the year. It is open to Realtors living in Nevada.

Participants are chosen through the Leadership NVAR Selection Committee based on community and real estate involvement, in addition to their vision for the real estate profession. For more information on the program, visit www.nvar.org.

■ Dawn Mitton, Allie Bear Real Estate in Elko.

■ Angelica Reyes, RE/MAX Professionals in Reno.

■ Antonette Shaw, Ferrari-Lund Real Estate in Sparks.

■ David J. Tina, Urban Nest Realty in Las Vegas.

■ Lisa Weber, Berkshire Hathaway Home Services in Las Vegas.

■ Darra Williams, Signature Gallery of Homes in Henderson.

■ Julie Youngblood, Keller Williams Realty Southwest in Las Vegas.
