Salesman fields questions about his 2011 Hyundai Sonata off the job

Veteran automobile sales executive Bob Higdon of Planet Hyundai has been in the business since 1986, but nothing has impressed him like the recent improvements by Hyundai USA.

“I have sold a lot of cars over the years,” said Higdon, a 57-year-old native of Omaha, Neb., who has lived in Las Vegas since 1985. “However, what I discovered at this dealership has been a real eye-opener. The Hyundai line has made some of the greatest strides in this country in safety, economy and our new high-line luxury cars.”

An admitted Air Force brat who has lived or visited countries all over the world including Germany, France, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden and Austria, Higdon is a big fan of Las Vegas.

“I like the shows, the city and the restaurants,” Higdon said. “There is so much happening here, and even when the economy dropped so badly in the fall of 2008, the car business took a hit, but not as bad as other industries here.”

Higdon drives a 2011 Hyundai Sonata and said people have waited for him in parking lots to ask questions.

“I actually gave the keys to one couple and told them to take it around the block. They gave me their keys, came back and I now have an appointment to show them our new hybrid vehicle in February.

Higdon said selling cars generates a great sense of self-satisfaction.

“Many times people need a car very badly,” Higdon said. “When you can get them a car and they’re happy, there is no better feeling in the world than knowing you have helped them. I have had several customers give me a hug. When they give you a hug and shake your hand, it makes your day. You become instant friends.”

Higdon said there are many rewards in the car business. What makes him most proud was his customer achievement award for which only 2 percent of the sales staff achieved the highest level of customer service.

Higdon has proof positive that the Hyundai is safe.

“I was in a bad accident driving a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe last June,” said Higdon. “Someone cut in front of me causing a rear-end collision and it totaled the Santa Fe. I had no injuries whatsoever, and that fact alone speaks well for Hyundai.”
