SHOOTING STARS EXTRA: ‘American Idol’ may add Vegas road trip

All roads lead to Vegas ... including, perhaps, the next installment of Fox's "American Idol."

Next season's "Idol" is pondering several changes, including a Hollywood house the show's 12 finalists would share and interaction via Twitter between contestants and fans.

But the show also may add a Vegas element, with "American Idol" incorporating elements from The Mirage's Beatles-themed Cirque du Soleil show "Love." According to the Hollywood Reporter show business trade journal, several major Strip productions were vying for the "American Idol" connection, but "Love" won out as a venue for 60 "Idol" contestants chosen from 325 participating in the show's "Hollywood Week." The 40 who survive "Vegas Week" will then return to L.A.

If "American Idol" does institute its "Vegas Week," it'll be following in the footsteps of its fellow Fox show "So You Think You Can Dance," which has been bringing hopefuls to Las Vegas since its second season.

As always, stay tuned to future Shooting Stars installments for production updates.
