WESTSIDE NEWCOMERS TO MEET AUG. 6

The Westside Newcomers Club plans to host a coffee event for prospective members at 9:15 a.m. Aug. 6 at Grace in the Desert Episcopal Church, 2004 Spring Gate Lane. The coffee event takes place the first Wednesday of each month.

The social club is for women who have lived in the area for 10 years or less or for those who have a life-changing event, such as retirement. It offers a variety of activities. A luncheon with a program is planned for the second Wednesday of each month.

JEWISH SINGLES SOCIAL CLUB TO MEET AUG. 6 AT JCC

The Jewish Singles 55 Plus Social Cub for Men and Women plans to meet at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 6 at Total Wine & More in Boca Park, 730 S. Rampart Blvd.

Meetings are scheduled for the first Wednesday of each month. The club welcomes anyone interested in entertaining programs, socializing and meeting new friends. A program is planned, followed by refreshments and wine tasting.

COUNCILMAN BOB BEERS TO MEET WITH RESIDENTS AUG. 8 and 28

Ward 2 Coffee with the Councilman is slated for 7:30 to 9 a.m. Aug. 8 at Avery’s Coffee at Village Square Shopping Center, 9400 W. Sahara Ave. Las Vegas City Councilman Bob Beers plans to meet with residents to talk about what is happening in Ward 2 and the city of Las Vegas.

Residents 21 or older are invited to a similar event planned for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 28 at Embers Grill & Spirits in Boca Park, 740 S. Rampart Blvd.

READING WITH RASCAL SESSION SET FOR AUG. 9

The next Reading with Rascal is slated from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 9 in the multipurpose room of Desert Spring United Methodist Church, 120 N. Pavilion Center Drive.

Children can read to a certified therapy dog.

CAMP MEND-A-HEART PLANNED FOR AUG. 14-17

The Children’s Heart Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for Nevada children with heart problems, plans its 10th annual Camp Mend-a-Heart for Aug. 14-17 at Torino Ranch in Southern Nevada. The camp offers children who are born with or have developed heart problems the opportunity to forge relationships, attain hope and build memories.

Camp Mend-a-Heart is a cost-free, medically supervised camp for children 7 to 18 living in Nevada who are born with or have developed a heart condition. Camp Mend-a-Heart gives children a traditional summer camp experience with sports, arts and crafts, water games and many other recreational activities and programs. Camp Mend-a-Heart is staffed by volunteer counselors, nurses and physicians.

JEWISH GENEALOGY SOCIETY TO MEET AUG. 17 AT SAHARA WEST LIBRARY

The Jewish Genealogy Society of Southern Nevada plans to meet at 1 p.m. Aug. 17 at the Sahara West Library, 9600 W. Sahara Ave.

The slated guest speaker is Mirta Ines Trupp, author of “With Love, The Argentina Family:Memories of Tango and Kugel.” In her self-published memoir, Trupp covers why her

family went to Argentina rather than the United States and why they eventually traveled to the U.S.

SINCITY DOGS FLYBALL TEAM TO HOST TRAINING

The Sincity Dogs Flyball team plans to host indoor meets at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays at 4221 W. Charleston Blvd. to train dogs for relay races. Any healthy breed dog with ball and tug drive is welcome to try out for the team.

Sincity Dogs is a nonprofit organization. Team dues go to pay hall rental fees.
