Summerlin teams up with Friends of Red Rock Canyon

The Howard Hughes Corp., developer of the master-planned community of Summerlin, and Friends of Red Rock Canyon, a non-profit organization, have united to encourage Summerlin residents to join the organization via a campaign called Summerlin Friends of Red Rock Canyon.

The campaign includes intra-community promotion including the Summerlin resident newsletter and online outreach.

According to Tom Warden, vice president of community and government affairs for Hughes Corp., the campaign began in August and culminates with a special chuck wagon breakfast and early morning hike in October for those who join the organization through this effort.

"The idea behind this campaign is to unite environmentally-conscious Summerlin residents with an already well-established organization that is doing much to preserve the Red Rock area," Warden said. "Summerlin residents not only appreciate the beauty of the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area that frames the community's western edge, they also frequently recreate there. It's a great place to hike, walk, cycle and just enjoy nature. The Summerlin Friends of Red Rock Canyon campaign is a great avenue for community residents to demonstrate their environmental commitment and support."

Those who join receive benefits, including a special Summerlin Friends of Red Rock t-shirt, window sticker and opportunity to attend a chuck wagon breakfast and early morning hike led by leaders of Friends of Red Rock Canyon and the Red Rock Canyon Interpretive Society.

Nearly a dozen Summerlin families have already responded to the call by becoming Summerlin Friends of Red Rock for a $250 donation to the organization.

Since its inception in 1984, Friends of Red Rock Canyon has provided more than 500,000 volunteer hours and more than $1 million in financial support for the preservation and protection of Red Rock Canyon.

"We hope to build on this year after year," Warden said of the first-year campaign. "It's the right thing to do for those who care about Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. The Howard Hughes Corp. is proud to be part of this effort."

Summerlin began to take shape in 1990 and is currently home to more than 95,000 residents. The community is home to more than 100 neighborhood and village parks, more than 150 completed miles of the Summerlin Trail System, houses of worship, shopping centers, medical and cultural facilities, business parks and more than 100 actively selling floor plans.

Single-family homes, townhomes, condominiums and lofts are available. Prices start from the low $200,000s to more than $2 million. Custom home sites in The Ridges are priced from the $500,000s. Luxury apartment homes offer monthly rents starting from the low $1,000s.
