Fire Department reports activity
The Clark County Fire Department was called to a fire at two mobile homes at 3610 Las Vegas Blvd. North at about 10:20 a.m. June 15. Firefighters from Las Vegas and North Las Vegas also responded to the fire. Two adults escaped the fire, but three children under 3 did not.
Fire fighters responded to a fire at 9:55 p.m. June 17 at an apartment at 5250 E. Stewart Ave. No was injured in the incident, but two families were displaced by smoke damage. The fire appeared to be cooking-related. The Clark County Fire Department reminds everyone that precautions should be taken when cooking. Cooking food should not be left unattended. Children should be supervised in kitchen areas. Flammable materials should be kept away from the stove and the stove or oven should be turned off when done cooking.
In the case of a cooking fire, if it’s safe, turn off the burner. If the fire is in a pot or pan, smother it with the lid. The same applies with an oven fire. Turn the oven off and leave the door closed to smother the fire. Do not use water on a grease or oil fire as it may spread the flames. Instead, use baking soda or a chemical fire extinguisher. Do not take risks with fires. When in doubt, get out and call 911.
The kitchen also appears to be the origin of a third fire at 8:30 a.m. June 18 at a house at 4626 Sacks Drive. No injuries were reported, but damage was estimated to be $20,000.
