Titus targeted by GOP radio
The Republican National Committee is airing a radio ad that takes aim at Rep. Dina Titus, D-Nev., on the health care issue.
The ad, which the RNC says started airing over the weekend, attempts to tie Titus to what Republicans are calling “President Obama’s dangerous health care experiment on America.”
Titus voted against the House version of the health care plan when it came up in the House Education and Labor Committee, earning her a mention as one of a group of “Democratic defectors” who could derail the legislation.
The radio ad doesn’t say Titus supports the legislation, just that there’s a “question” about her position. She might have hoped her vote against the bill would inoculate her against these kinds of attacks, but that's apparently not the case.
Republicans see Titus as a top target in her 2010 fight for reelection due to the partisan divide of her district. There are more registered Democrats than Republicans by a healthy margin after 2008’s statewide registration shift, but it’s still relatively close.
Here’s the text of the radio spot:
“Most Americans agree. It’s time to take action to reform our healthcare system. But the dangerous experiment President Obama and the Democrats in Congress want just can’t be the right answer. The question is what Congresswoman Titus will do.
“Look at their record. The stimulus package cost us hundreds of billions without creating new jobs. The national debt has more than doubled.
“If Barack Obama and the Democrats get their way, the Federal Government will make the decisions about your health care. And, their plan costs a trillion dollars we don’t have. You have to pay a new tax to keep your private insurance. It’s too much, too fast.”
The ad is scheduled to air for about a week. Titus is one of 60 Democrats in 33 states being targeted by the RNC.
