The Southern Nevada Building and Construction Trades Council is endorsing County Commissioner Rory Reid for governor in the Democratic primary a year from now.
A blunt news release from the union, headed by Las Vegas City Councilman Steve Ross, frames the endorsement as an explicit condemnation of Assembly Speaker Barbara Buckley’s work in the recently concluded legislative session.
Though "both Barbara and Rory contacted our affiliates for support," Ross says in the release, the early endorsement is going to Reid "because this Legislature left so many difficult decisions on the table for next session."
Ross added, "Coming out of a legislative session where the concerns of working men and women, like creating jobs, were too often put on the back burner, we need a leader who will bring a fresh perspective to Carson City. We believe that Rory Reid, with his years of service to Nevada and deep commitment to working families and creating jobs, is that leader.”
The council is an umbrella organization representing 16 construction-related unions with 22,000 members.
