Walker takes presidential bid to Las Vegas on July 14
Republican presidential candidate Scott Walker will be in Las Vegas next Tuesday.
The Wisconsin governor is campaigning for the GOP nod in a crowded field of more than a dozen contenders.
He plans to travel from a Monday announcement event in Waukesha, Wis., to Las Vegas, his campaign said.
For Walker, it’s part of a multiweek announcement tour that focuses on building momentum in early voting states.
Other details on Walker’s visit, including the time and location, weren’t available Tuesday. It will be Walker’s first public event in Nevada after formally announcing on Monday that he’s in the race.
Walker has widespread name recognition after playing a central role in reshaping Wisconsin’s public-sector collective bargaining laws in 2011 to limit what unions can bargain for in contract negotiations. The state’s pension contribution structure changed, requiring more from government employees but saving the state billions of dollars.
Walker faced and overcame a recall effort in 2012 launched by opponents unhappy with changes to collective bargaining. He was re-elected to a second term as governor in 2014.
Walker also has signed right-to-work legislation that prevents unions from requiring dues as a condition of employment. A similar law is also on the books in Nevada.
Nevada’s February caucuses make the Silver State a key player in the race, along with New Hampshire, South Carolina and Iowa.
