Woman exchanges California home for Pahrump

Audrey Gore said she decided to sell her San Fernando Valley home of 56 years and move to Mountain Falls, a golf course community in Pahrump, because she wanted to live near her daughter and son-in-law, who had relocated there. Pahrump is located about 50 miles northwest of Las Vegas.

“I had never heard of Pahrump before my daughter and son-in-law decided to move there from California,” Gore said. “When I came to visit them during Thanksgiving in 2005, my daughter suggested that I look at homes in Mountain Falls. When I visited, I fell in love with the model home at William Lyon Homes’ Tramonto neighborhood and I knew that I wanted to move here.

Gore sold her Southern California home within a few weeks and was able to take advantage of the lower housing costs at Mountain Falls.

“I knew the floor plan that I wanted and my daughter chose the lot for me, which is located next to a small park with lots of grass and flowers,” Gore said.

“My home in Mountain Falls was half the price as what I had sold my California home for, and it is twice as big. I was able to afford many upgrades in my house, like granite countertops, converting a third bedroom into a den, and landscaping my backyard.”

Gore said she particularly likes the sense of openness afforded by the vaulted ceilings and great room adjacent to the kitchen in her Plan One design.

She also enjoys spending time outside on her covered patio, which is accessible from both her dining area and master bedroom.

“I’m not a desert person, but I’ve learned to enjoy living in the desert. I love that you can go outside and see just about forever out here on clear days. The mountains are so close and beautiful. It is so quiet and peaceful here,” Gore said.

Gore said she also likes the master-planned community’s amenities, which include the Mountain Falls clubhouse, which has a private fitness center, lounge area, multipurpose room and outdoor aquatic center.

She said she enjoys dining with her friends at the adjacent Mountain Falls Grill Room, which is open to the public for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The restaurant overlooks an 18-hole golf course.

Annual, six-month, three-month and monthly golf passes that include unlimited golf cart and greens fees are offered to residents at a discounted rate.

Golf passes to nonresidents and daily greens fees are also available. Three builders are constructing homes within six neighborhoods at Mountain Falls.

Classic Homes’ Paradiso features five single- and two-story floor plans measuring up to 4,300 square feet and priced from the high $400,000s.

Desert Wind Homes offers Tivoli, a single-story neighborhood with homes measuring from 1,938 to 2,097 square feet and priced from the $200,000s.

William Lyon is developing the Bella Sera, Entrata, Cascata Ancora and Tramonto neighborhoods, where homes measure from 1,157 to 2,897 square feet. Prices start in the high $100,000s.

To visit from Las Vegas, travel west on State Route 160 (Blue Diamond Road) past Interstate 15.

Before reaching Pahrump, turn left on Manse Road. Proceed to Hafen Ranch and turn right.

Sales offices are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily except Monday, when model homes open at noon.
