YOUR WEEKEND: Indian Punjabi dinner and dance planned for May 16

The sixth annual Vaisakhi Mela, an Indian Punjabi dinner and dance festival, will be held at 7 p.m. May 16 to raise funds for the Sikh Temple in Las Vegas. The featured entertainer will be singer-songwriter Debi Makhsoospuri.

The event will be held at the St. Simeon Church Hall, 3950 S. Jones Blvd. Tickets cost $25 and include dinner prepared by two leading Indian restaurants in Las Vegas, Gandhi and Tamba Indian Cuisine. Tickets for students showing an ID are $20, and admission is free to children younger than 12.

Joining Makhsoospuri in providing entertainment will be Ishmeet Narula and Kashmir Mast. Attendees will be entered in a raffle to win a 32-inch LCD TV, a laptop computer and a digital camera.

Tickets will be sold at the door or can be purchased in advance by calling Tony Gill at 289-7028.

The Sikh Temple of Las Vegas is located at 6341 W. Lone Mountain Road.
