Suspended Las Vegas lawyer Jacob Hafter dies at age 42

Las Vegas lawyer Jacob Hafter died Tuesday at the age of 42. Las Vegas police dispatch logs show that officers went to Hafter’s office at about 1:15 p.m. after receiving a report of a suicide attempt. According to the Clark County coroner’s office, Hafter was taken to UMC, where he was pronounced dead .
His cause of death has not been determined. The controversial lawyer was suspended by the Nevada Supreme Court in Novemeber for lying under oath and making derogatory public comments about a district judge.

Two people were rescued safely after a car crashed into a lake in the Desert Shores community in northwest Las Vegas. The crash was called in five minutes before midnight at a lake near Breakwater and Port of Call drives, according to Las Vegas Fire Department spokesman Tim Szymanski. A man and woman managed to get out of the car and onto the roof, Szymanski said. One of them couldn’t swim, so they waited for help to arrive. Firefighters pushed a raft over to the couple and used a fire hose to pull them back to shore, Szymanski said. No one was injured. No one was injured. Las Vegas Police took over the investigation to determine how the car got into the lake.

She did not have to be hospitalized, and police said she might have been an “unintended” victim. The shooting occurred around 4 a.m. Police are looking for the shooter.

A security guard at the Covington at Coronado Ranch apartment complex ended up in the hospital after thwarting a group of mailbox vandals on Monday morning. According to Las Vegas police, about 12:45 a.m. the guard saw a group of people trying to break into mailboxes at the central Las Vegas complex when he confronted them. The group jumped into a vehicle and while trying to flee, struck the guard. The guard was hospitalized with injures that were not life-threatening. The suspects fled and remain at-large.

A man died Friday morning after Las Vegas police shot him during a traffic stop. Officers were on their way to another call when they pulled over a vehicle for reckless driving. Police say the man was holding a gun when he got out of the vehicle, and at some point threw the gun to the ground. As officers told the man to put his hands up and stay away from the weapon, he got to his knees and grabbed it. The man was shot by police after he pointed the gun at officers.

Las Vegas police are searching for a suspect who robbed an adult entertainment store last month. The suspect waved a knife at two clerks, demanding money at the Adult Superstore at 3850 W. Tropicana. The clerks did not give him any money. until he went behind the counter and cornered thems. The Clark County coroner’s office has released the identification of a body found near Mount Charleston Sunday night. Izaak Paul Towery, 23, of Las Vegas died from multiple sharp force injuries, the coroner’s office said. His death has been ruled a homicide. Towery’s body was found after a hiker reported seeing a body between mile markers 9 and 11 on Kyle Canyon Road, Las Vegas police said. An officer later found the body. Based on evidence at the scene, Metro said, detectives determined Towery had been stabbed several times at that location. His death marked the 42nd homicide in Clark County this year and the 36th investigated by Metro,

Two people were killed in a car crash Sunday afternoon in the western valley. Two cars collided about 4:45 p.m. on Rainbow Boulevard, just south of Westcliff Drive. A white Chrysler struck a black Toyota as it was turning left into a shopping center, Las Vegas police said. The Chrysler jumped a curb and struck the corner of the Silver State Schools Credit Union office. The Toyota flipped and the driver and the passenger, who was ejected from the car, died at the scene. The driver of the Chrysler suffered minor injuries and police said he was not impaired. It’s unclear if he will face charges.

One person died when a vehicle he was riding in plunged into a lake in west Las Vegas.
Las Vegas Fire and Rescue crews responded to a report at 12:53 a.m. Thursday of a car submerged in a lake in Desert Shores.
A Technical Rescue Team was on the scene around 1:30 a.m. pulling the vehicle out of the water. Rescue crews donned wet suits to help pull the man out of the vehicle.
Las Vegas police confirmed at 2:31 a.m. that one person had died. Officers and investigators don’t believe at this time there was anyone else in the vehicle.

Las Vegas police are investigating a homicide and kidnapping Wednesday morning in the west valley. A woman’s ex-boyfriend broke into a home, shot her current boyfriend and then kidnapped her, police said. She was later found safe.
The man who was shot was taken to a hospital where he died. The shooter was taken into custody after a chase that ended near Interstate 15 and Tropicana Avenue.

At 5 a.m., the man’s body was still on scene, laying on the walkway near a shopping cart and a pile of blankets.

Ron Moore Jr. flew to Nevada Monday to hand-deliver the last three portraits, including one of Metropolitan Police Department officer Charleston Hartfield. Over 25 days, Moore dedicated nearly 175 hours to drawing portraits of the victims. Moore was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2004. He prayed that if God would give him the ability to draw again, he would use his talent to bless others. Moore also surprised Las Vegas police with a painting of an eagle. The painting and Hartfield’s portrait will remain on display inside the Las Vegas police headquarters’ main lobby.

Las Vegas police are investigating after a man with a gunshot wound was found dead in the backseat of a vehicle outside a southwest valley gas station. Police were called about 6:20 a.m. Thursday after a woman went into a Terrible’s gas station at 4150 S. Durango Drive asking for help. The man, who appeared to be in his 20s and had suffered at least one gunshot wound to the chest, was in the backseat of her car, police said. A woman has been arrested after a witness in a murder trial was struck by a car outside the courthouse. Shaquilla Stafford, 44, was arrested in connection with the incident. The witness, Queva Stafford, was injured. Queva Stafford is the sister of the man who was killed. Las Vegas police suspect she was struck intentionally while she walked on the sidewalk. Shaquilla Stafford also faces weapon charges. She posted bond and is no longer in custody.
