Weather, low fuel force flight to land at Nellis near Las Vegas

An American Airlines flight on its way to McCarran International Airport made an emergency landing at Nellis Air Force Base on Saturday afternoon. Flight 671 was diverted to the base because of wind conditions at the airport and low fuel levels, Nellis spokeswoman Rebekah Mattes said. American Airlines spokesman Josh Freed said there was no fuel leak, and the airplane had enough gas to get to McCarran. The airplane, which was on its way to Las Vegas from the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, had 194 people on board, including six crew members.

Nevada looking to strengthen trade ties with India

Nevada has a new task force to strengthen trade ties with India. The Nevada-India Economic Development and Business Task Force hopes to attract direct investment in Nevada and expand exports to India. India is Nevada’s second largest trading partner, behind Switzerland. In 2017, the state exported more than $1.8 billion in products, goods and services to India. That same year, it imported more than $400 million in goods.

After 45 years, Kiss has launched their final “End of the Road” tour. The outing follows their first “farewell” tour…back in 2000. The band has sold over 100 million records worldwide and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014. Say goodbye to the band at T-Mobile Arena on Feb. 15.

Gender gap in business owner first-year revenue

A report from JPMorgan Chase found that male business owners in Las Vegas have higher first-year revenue than their female counter parts. According to the report, male business owners in Las Vegas made an average of $70,000 in the first year. Female business owners made an average of $57,000 in revenue their first year, a 20 percent difference. Other cities had larger gaps. Austin, for instance, had a 73 percent difference between male and female first-year revenue. And the gap in San Antonio was a 79 percent difference.

Southwest Airlines CEO Gary Kelly says the airline is “very focused” on Hawaii. Hawaiians have a strong presence in Las Vegas.The city’s unofficial status is “Hawaii’s ninth island.” In 2018, at least 2,958 people from Hawaii moved to Nevada. Of those, 88.7 percent moved into Clark County, according to driver license surrender data. According to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, 310,249 people came to Las Vegas from Hawaii in 2018.

Famous Infinity Mirror Room in Las Vegas Extended

Las Vegas is finally home to one of Yayoi Kusama’s infinity mirror rooms. The rooms replicate infinity. “Aftermath of Obliteration of Infinity” is a dark room covered in mirrors. Inside are hundreds of suspended yellow lanterns. The cube is small. But it feels like it goes on forever. Her other installation “Narcissus Garden” forms a lake of reflective spheres. The Yayoi Kusama exhibit will be open in Las Vegas until April 28.

LVCVA joining companies filing to leave NV Energy

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority board unanimously approved looking into an alternative energy provider. So far, six companies have left NV Energy, including MGM Resorts International, Barrick Goldstrike and Switch. In 2018, 10 companies began making moves to leave, including the Las Vegas stadium, the MSG Sphere and Boyd Gaming Corp. The LVCVA will go through the 704B process with the Public Utilities Commission to try to get approval to use Texas-based power marketer Tenaska Power Services Co.
