Failures in Clark County child protection system lead to death of 13-year-old.
In 2017, Aaron Jones' decomposed body was found in a desert lot behind a weekly hotel in Las Vegas.But county child protection workers had known for years that the 13-year-old's mother had trouble caring for her children, new records show.As early 2006, his mother was investigated and cleared of burning the boy, but a sibling was taken away for months when she failed to feed him properly.In 2015, school officials told child protection workers that the family situation was a "recipe for disaster," internal county files reveal.But the children were only taken away after the mother lost track of them four times.Instead of putting Aaron in a foster home, a county hearing master placed him and his sister...... with their father, who was on probation for child abuse, records show.Jones, his wife and 11 children lived in a one-bedroom where Aaron suffered horrific abuse, according to grand jury testimony.After Aaron's body was found, his father, Paul Jones, and step-mother were indicted on murder charges. .The step mother, Latoya Williams-Miley, pleaded guilty and Paul Jones is awaiting trail.“In this case, as an entire state, we failed Aaron and should have provided him with more resources.” , Jared Busker of the Children’s Advocacy Alliance
