Southern Nevada sees 122 new coronavirus cases, no new deaths

The Southern Nevada Health District on Saturday morning reported 122 new cases of coronavirus in Clark County and no additional deaths.

According to data posted to the Southern Nevada Health District’s website, there are now 6,579 cases of the virus in the county, while the number of deaths remained at 340.

State data showed an additional 145 cases across Nevada on Saturday morning, bringing the total number of cases to 8,495, according to the Department of Health and Human Service’s website. Review-Journal records, though, show 8,516 cases statewide.

Statewide, there have been 417 deaths.

Throughout the state, 160,499 people have been tested for the virus, so the case total representing an infection rate of about 6.13 percent.

Public health experts say that, like the county hospitalization rate, the infection rate is a better indicator of the trend of the outbreak in the state. The rate peaked on April 23 at 12.66 percent.

In Clark County, 1,563 people had been hospitalized at some point due to the virus, according to the health district.

New cases and deaths are often redistributed after the district announces them to better reflect the dates on which they occurred, so the totals announced daily often do not match the district’s reconfigured data.

Also on Saturday, Carson City Health and Human Services reported two new cases, for a total of 189. Five deaths in total have been reported.
