Valley Automall continues to record strong sales numbers

The Valley Automall in Henderson was opened in 1995 by automobile executives Cliff Findlay, Greg Heinrich, Gary Ackerman and Larry Carter.

Now featuring 20 dealerships with 25 brands on more than 150 acres, the mall is the largest of its kind in the nation.

Al Shirley, a veteran automobile executive and the general manager of the Valley Automall, said the success of the mall has been phenomenal.

“This has been everything the partners of the Automall anticipated,” said the 71 year-old Shirley, a 32-year resident of Southern Nevada. “The growth has continued east of Highway 93.”

Shirley explained that the expansion has included a new Findlay Toyota, Audi Henderson, Lexus of Henderson and a Lamborghini dealership.

Over the timespan, about 700,000 new and preowned vehicles have been sold through dealerships at the mall. The numbers are not only impressive but yet another example of the Automall’s incredible success.

The Automall story remains interesting two decades after its opening. Even during the years of the recession, the mall continued to produce respectable numbers.

In 2006, some 45,000 sales were recorded, with 42,000 in 2007, 31,000 in 2008, 24,000 in 2009, 27,000 in 2010, more than 30,000 in 2011, 35,878 in 2012, 40,101 in 2013, more than 41,000 in 2014 and 42,397 in 2015.

Indeed, the creation and the follow-through of the Valley Automall have been impressive.

“Looking back 20 years, it has to make us smile to think that four local car guys could get together, share a vision together and make the huge commitment necessary to pull it off,” Ackerman said. “To have it turn into the largest auto mall in the country is just beyond what we ever hoped for. A great group, a great partnership and a great community.”

Additionally, the Valley Automall has maintained a huge presence in Southern Nevada through its community involvement, which has included various fundraising events such as a Foster Teen Christmas that honored 100 foster teenagers with a luncheon and raffle prizes, along with a two-hour shopping spree that saw each teen receive a $100 gift certificate to use at a local mall.

“The dealerships have all been very supportive of the community,” said Shirley. “The Valley Automall Owners Association has been heavily involved in countless community-related endeavors over the years.”

The 12 Days of Christmas has raised $30,000 annually benefiting a dozen charitable organizations that have each received $2,500.

Other charitable causes have included donations to the American Cancer Society and E-Bunny, a local organization that provides Easter baskets for underprivileged children in the valley.

Finally, each Labor Day the dealerships combine for a promotion that provides free registration for the buyers of more than 1,000 new vehicles.

“Just that alone saves buyers more than $500,000,” Shirley said. “It’s a huge promotion that started in 2001.”
