MGM Resorts selects Baltimore contractor for Maryland casino

OXON HILL, Md. — MGM Resorts has chosen a Baltimore-based contractor to build its new casino resort at National Harbor in Prince George’s County.

The contractor, Whiting-Turner Contracting Co., will serve as lead contractor and oversee construction. The contractor will oversee the $1 billion project with dozens of subcontractors and about 2,000 workers. The announcement was made Tuesday.

MGM won a license in December to open a large casino and resort complex near the Potomac River. It would include a 300-suite hotel, a casino and seven restaurants.

The projected opening date for the new resort is summer 2016.

Whiting-Turner also built the Horseshoe Baltimore casino backed by Caesars Entertainment, as well as M&T Bank Stadium and several hotels in the District of Columbia.
