Shift founder shuts down car-sharing startup

Shift founder Zach Ware has shut down his ambitious downtown car-sharing startup after two years.

Melissa Roxas, a public relations representative for Shift, declined to address the Shift shutdown and referred a reporter to a pando.com story that confirmed Ware is laying off staff and liquidating assets.

Shift used Teslas and smart cars, and also had bicycles.

Ware, a friend of Downtown Project founder and Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh, started the car-sharing business and had sites around downtown.

Ware was unavailable for comment. He will become a partner at Vegas Tech Fund, which invests in tech start-ups. Downtown Project, Hsieh’s $350 million downtown redevelopment initiative, oversees the Vegas Tech Fund as its tech investment arm.
