State revises 2015 jobless rate down to 6.7 percent

Nevada’s jobless rate in 2015 was lower than initially estimated.

The state Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation said Thursday that it revised the year’s rate downward, from 6.8 percent to 6.7 percent.

Job gains were revised upward, from 37,500 to 40,700.

The monthly jobless numbers that the employment department releases are estimates. Each February, the agency refines the yearly figure based on more complete information.

“While original estimates were very close to the mark, we are pleased to see even more improvement in Nevada’s economy than originally reported,” said Bill Anderson, the employment department’s chief economist.

Since 2010, Nevada has added back 140,000 of the 170,000 jobs it lost in the recession.
