Treasure Island proposes three-story shopping center on Strip

Treasure Island wants to build a three-story shopping center addition to the Strip resort.

The company’s application for use permits will come before county commissioners Wednesday.

The 46,200-square-foot addition will be on a 19.5-acre site at the southwest corner of Las Vegas Boulevard South and Spring Mountain Road.

The addition’s planned commercial uses include a pharmacy, stores and restaurants. The shopping center also will have an automobile sales showroom, according to the application.

The resort’s lagoon area will be reduced in size to make way for the addition. But the familiar pirate ship isn’t disappearing from the Strip.

The track the ship runs on will be shortened, reducing its sail from around the end of the building into the show area, said Greg Borgel, a consultant for Treasure Island.

“The ship will go on,” he said. “The show will go on.”

Shortening the track will free up the area for pedestrians and retail space, Borgel said.

The shopping center will be slightly more than 70 feet high.

It will have individual tenant spaces, allowing future remodels of the interior. The first floor will have 14,600 square feet, the second floor will have 15,000 square feet, and the third floor will have 16,600 square feet, according to the plan.

The resort’s wood-framed boardwalk will transition into a sidewalk that extends along the front of the shopping center, according to the application.

Pedestrians will be able to enter the shopping center from Las Vegas Boulevard South and from within the resort. The plan also calls for landscaping with palm trees and shrubs.

A timeline for the project’s construction was unavailable Monday.
