UNLV director named to Nevada Public Utilities Commission

CARSON CITY — Gov. Brian Sandoval has named Luis Valera to the Nevada Public Utilities Commission.

The commission regulates public utilities, including electric, natural gas, telephone, water and sewer services. Sandoval announced the appointment Tuesday.

Valera is currently the government affairs director for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and is former public affairs director for the Nevada Resort Association.

Valera is also chairman of the Latin Chamber of Commerce and serves on the Nevada Commission on Economic Development.

He earned his undergraduate and law degrees from the UNLV.
