A 13-year-old Henderson boy who was getting off a school bus was “substantially injured” in a hit-and-run crash Wednesday afternoon in the south Las Vegas Valley.

The incident occurred at Amigo Street and South Abbeyfield Rose Drive, near St. Rose Parkway and South Maryland Parkway, according to a Metropolitan Police Department news release.

Authorities said a gray 2023 Honda Accord was traveling north on Amigo and approaching a stopped school bus with flashing red lights and stop signs at Abbeyfield Rose.

As the boy who exited the bus was crossing Amigo Street, police say the driver of the Honda failed to stop for the stop signs on the school bus and struck him.

The driver of the Honda left the scene and continued north on Amigo Street, Metro said.

The boy was transported to University Medical Center Trauma with “substantial injuries,” police said.

Authorities said that the vehicle was located abandoned.

The driver of the Honda, identified by police as Yarla Valeriano-Perez, 27, later returned to the scene, according to the news release.

Impairment is not suspected in the crash, police said.

Valeriano-Perez was arrested on hit-and-run-related charges, Metro said.
