Henderson woman faces murder charge in boyfriend’s death
A Henderson woman was arrested Thursday and charged with murder after police say she choked to death her abusive boyfriend with a computer cord.
Tammy Lucero, 36, had marks on her neck and face when she described to detectives how she killed her boyfriend, David Hudson, 35, according to her arrest report.
After Hudson punched her in the face and choked her in the couple’s apartment, Lucero pushed him off and grabbed a computer cord from the floor.
Lucero told police Hudson then said, “Go ahead, I’m a gangster. I’m not afraid to die.” He let her wrap the cord once around his neck, according to the report, and Lucero got behind him and pulled the cord tightly.
She continued to choke him, wrapping the cord two more times around his neck as Hudson turned blue and shuddered, according to the report. She left the apartment and told a nurse at a hospital about the killing. The nurse called police.
Lucero said that she had continued to choke him because she was afraid that if he survived, he would kill her, the report said.
Hudson had been arrested months before for domestic battery on Lucero, and a detective said she fit the profile of a battered victim.
“Lucero had visual injuries on her person in various stages of healing that substantiate her claims of battery,” detectives noted in the report.
Neighbors said both partners seemed abusive toward each other, and two said they had seen Lucero attack Hudson without Hudson attacking back.
Lucero is being held at the Henderson Detention Center without bail.
