Juvenile arrested in stepfather’s slaying
A 17-year-old boy was arrested in the slaying of his stepfather in the southwest valley late Monday afternoon, Las Vegas police said Tuesday.
Police did not release the identity of the suspect because he is a minor. He was transported to the Clark County Juvenile Detention Center.
Homicide Lt. Ray Steiber said it’s rare for minor children to kill a parent.
“You don’t see too often when it’s a child against a parent,” Steiber said.
The slain man’s identity was not released by the Clark County coroner’s office Tuesday afternoon.
Police said that at 5:30 p.m., they received a 911 call about an “extremely violent domestic altercation” at a home on the 10000 block of Canvas Canyon Court, near Durango Drive and state Route 160. Upon arrival, officers saw the juvenile, who matched the description of one of the combatants, as he was walking in a nearby desert area.
Upon arrival at the home, officers found the victim facedown in a pool of blood. He was taken to St. Rose Dominican Hospital-San Martin, where he was pronounced dead.
Steiber declined to detail how police believe the teenager killed his father.
He said key facts are still being investigated.
“The exact reason behind what occurred between them is still under investigation,” Steiber said. “We don’t know what caused it to get so violent.”
