Man, 82, dies in two-car collision

An 82-year-old man died after a vehicle collision Thursday on Charleston and Jones boulevards, Las Vegas police said.

Police said the collision occurred about noon, and a driver involved in the crash was under the influence of drugs.

Police said 29-year-old Jose Gomez was driving a 1995 GMC Suburban east on Charleston approaching Jones, while 78-year-old Geneva Foster was driving a 2001 Lincoln Town Car that was making a left turn onto southbound Jones.

Police said Gomez entered the intersection on a red light and struck the right side of the Town Car. The passenger in the Town Car died at the scene.

Foster was taken to University Medical Center with critical injuries.

Gomez was arrested on recommended charges of driving under the influence of drugs and running the red light.

The collision was the 39th traffic-related fatality this year under the jurisdiction of Las Vegas police.
