Mesquite man arrested in double slaying, kidnapping

A 43-year-old Mesquite man is being held without bail in the Clark County Detention Center, facing two charges of first-degree murder and another of holding an eyewitness to one killing against her will.

Ryan Keith Wood was charged in the weekend stabbing of a man in Wood’s rental home and in the killing of a second victim whose body was later found in the home.

Michael Troy Eldredge, 50, of Mesquite was rushed to Mesa View Regional Hospital after Mesquite police found him lying on the curb on the north side of the street just south of the Maverick Country Store. He was pronounced dead at the hospital of more than a dozen knife wounds to his right side and one to his temple, according to Mesquite police.

The second victim, Mark Anthony Parenti, 57, of Mesquite, was found Monday hidden in the basement of the home after police were told there might be another victim. The Clark County coroner’s office said the cause of death was asphyxiation.

Mesquite police on Monday arrested 30-year-old Jeramiah Juber of Hurricane, Utah, in connection with the slaying of the second victim. Juber is in Clark County Detention Center, held without bail on an open murder charge.

Wood was arrested by Las Vegas police at the AM/PM store in Glendale after, authorities said, the eyewitness escaped his home and contacted Mesquite police.
