A 21-year-old man who died after police said he was shot accidentally by another man in Henderson last week has been identified, while the suspected shooter was jailed and facing charges.

Desmond McMiller died from a gunshot wound to the head, according to a spokesperson for the Clark County coroner’s office.

Timmon Betts, 24, is facing charges of disregard for the safety of a person or property resulting in death or substantial bodily harm, and destroying/concealing evidence, according to a Henderson Police Department news release.

The shooting occurred just before 9 a.m. on April 22 in the 1200 block of Wigwam Parkway. First responders found a victim, later identified as McMiller, in a bedroom with a gunshot wound, the release said. He was taken to an area hospital.

Two days later, police were notified two days later that McMiller had died, police said.

“During the investigation, HPD detectives determined that the incident occurred when a male, identified as 24-year-old Timmon Betts, was handling a firearm in the living room of the residence and accidentally discharged a round, striking the victim who was in another room,” a Police Department news release said.

Betts was being held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center. His next court date is scheduled for May 14.

The killing was the second homicide in Henderson this year, police said.
