A Las Vegas police officer was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, police announced Friday.

Officer Zachary Louis was taken into custody by the Nevada Highway Patrol on Wednesday and booked into the Clark County Detention Center, according to a Metropolitan Police Department news release.

Metro said Louis faces multiple charges including one count of DUI first offense, one count of driver disobey peace officer, endangering other person/property, one count of reckless driving disregard person/property safety, and other driving-related charges.

Louis made an initial appearance on Thursday, according to Las Vegas Justice Court records. Those records also show prosecutors requested additional time to file the criminal complaint, and another hearing is scheduled Nov. 10.

Bail was not posted, according to court records, but online jail records did not list Louis as in custody. A spokesperson for the jail confirmed over the phone Louis was not in custody.

Louis has been employed with Metro since 2020, police said. He is assigned to the Community Safety Division, Northwest Area Command.

The department said Louis will be placed on suspension of police powers with pay pending further investigation.
