A pedestrian was killed in a suspected wrong-way DUI crash Wednesday morning and a 38-year-old Las Vegas man was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving, according to Las Vegas police.

The fatal crash occurred at about 8:45 a.m. on University Center Drive north of East Twain Avenue, the Metropolitan Police Department said in a news release.

Police said a 2025 Chevrolet Trax drove east in the westbound lanes on Twain, ran a red light and made a wide northbound turn onto University Center. The car then drove onto the sidewalk and struck the pedestrian, police said.

The pedestrian, described only as female by police, was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center where she was pronounced dead, according to authorities.

The driver of the Chevrolet, identified by police as Gerardo Lopez, “showed signs of impairment and was arrested for the applicable charges,” the release said.

The collision remained under investigation.
