The 007 best Bond tie-ins in BBC America’s new Ian Fleming drama

Thankfully, he never introduces himself as Fleming, Ian Fleming.

Still, the new four-part drama “Fleming: The Man Who Would Be Bond” (10 p.m. Wednesday, BBC America), which chronicles the womanizing heyday of the celebrated author who’s alternately described as “quite easily the worst stockbroker in London” and “the most handsome man in London,” offers several 007-ish tie-ins.

Here are seven of the best:

1) Fleming (Dominic Cooper) is first seen swimming after a bikini-clad babe with a speargun in his hand.

2) Fleming and Bond share a golf handicap.

3) They both smoke “custom-made Morland cigarettes blended from three Turkish tobaccos.”

4) They’re both accomplished downhill skiers.

5) Both their lives are filled with easily seducible women.

6) Those easily seducible women have ridiculous monikers. When he meets one named Muriel, whose friends call her Mu, Fleming declares to the blonde, “I shall call you Honeytop.”

7) They both share a fondness for a very particular type of martini. Fleming orders “three measures of Gordon’s, one of vodka, half a Kina Lillet, shaken not stirred in a champagne goblet.” He’s promptly handed an opened bottle of beer.
