Full day planned to honor King

Las Vegans can celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day at a variety of activities Monday, beginning with a parade at 10 a.m. on Fourth Street from Hoover to Ogden avenues.

“Inspiration,” a Freedom Fair and musical tribute, follows at noon at Cashman Theater, 850 Las Vegas Blvd. North.

“Inspiration” features a concert; a jobs, career, health, business and family expo; a young people’s nonviolence and tolerance forum; the “I Have a Dream Too” youth symposium; and the Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy Awards of Leadership. The forum starts at 1 p.m.

Most events are free, but tickets to the musical show, which begins at 2 p.m., are $5 for youngsters and $10 for adults. Call 415-1913 for tickets. Entertainment includes the Adelson School Choir, Paris Red, Bobby Rose’s tribute to Sam Cooke, Frankie Munoz and a tribute to Mahalia Jackson.
