A look at some of the DVDs, CDs and books hitting stores this week:
DVDS
“Lincoln” (PG-13): By limiting itself almost entirely to the events of January 1865 and the struggle to finesse the slavery-abolishing 13th Amendment through the House of Representatives, Steven Spielberg’s drama personalizes the president (Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis) like rarely before.
Elsewhere, an enforcer (Brad Pitt) is called in to restore order when a couple of bumbling crooks (Scoot McNairy, Ben Mendelsohn) rob a Mob-protected card game in “Killing Them Softly” (R). Hijinks ensue when a couple (Billy Crystal, Bette Midler) agree to baby-sit their grandkids in “Parental Guidance” (PG). And a group of mercenaries tries to rescue a young woman (Emma Fitzpatrick) from a killer known as The Collector and the abandoned hotel he’s turned into a maze of torture in the horror sequel “The Collection” (R).
Topping today’s TV transfers: “Veep: The Complete First Season,” “The Borgias: The Second Season,” “Continuum: Season One,” “Long Island Medium: Season One,” “Men at Work: The Complete First Season” and “MADtv: Season Two.”
