Women’s Cancer Center doctorpublished in prominent medical journal
A doctor at the Women’s Cancer Center of Nevada — and one who is on the way there — have collaborated on a research paper that was published in the January issue of BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Dr. Nick Spirtos, medical director at center, and Dr. Aimee Fleury, a fellow in gynecologic oncology at Johns Hopkins University who will be joining the center in August combined on a report titled “Upper Abdominal Cytoreduction and Thoracoscopy for Advanced Epithelial Ovarian Cancer: Unanswered Questions and the Impact on Treatment.” The paper investigates the use of surgical techniques to treat women suffering from advanced-stage epithelial ovarian cancer. BJOG publishes peer-reviewed research in all areas of obstetrics and gynecology.
“It is an honor to be published in a prestigious medical journal such as BJOG,” Spirtos said in a statement. “The physicians at Women’s Cancer Center of Nevada are dedicated to aggressively fighting ovarian and other gynecological cancers. This publication demonstrates how aggressive surgery can better define the extent of disease present and allow us to better design individualized care plans.”
The Women’s Cancer Center of Nevada is the only cancer center in Nevada that specializes exclusively in gynecologic cancers, including ovarian, cervical and uterine cancer.
