HIKES

Red Rock Canyon: Monday, there will be a moderate, 4-mile hike at Mount Charleston on the Robber’s Roost trail. There will also be a trip up Old Deer Creek Road. Tuesday, there will be a moderate/strenuous 6-mile hike to Calico Hills Loop and continue on the Red Rock side to Sandstone Quarry before following a series of drainages to Gateway Canyon. Wednesday, there will be an easy 3-mile hike along Moenkopi Trail.Thursday, there will be a moderate 2.5-mile hike to explore the Keystone Thrust area. Friday, there will be a moderate to strenuous 3-mile hike to Mary Jane Falls. Saturday, there will be a 3-mile hike to Keystone Thrust, scrambling down a dry waterfall and seeing the effects of water on sandstone. Also on Saturday, there will also be an easy 1/2-mile walk to Corn Creek Spring (515-5367).

Around the Bend Friends: This group of people over 50, interested in hiking and related social activities, plans a three- to four-hour moderate hike each Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m. To learn more about the group and the meeting place for the hike, contact 228-0773, or the club’s Web site: www.aroundthebendfriends.com

BIKES

Red Rock Canyon: There will be an introductory mountain bike ride starting from the late night parking lot. The beginner-intermediate ride will be 6-mile single-track. Helmets are required (515-5367).

OTHER PROGRAMS

Red Rock Canyon: For children ages 2-6, take a look what Red Rock used to be, what it it and what is may become. Children will get to do hands-on activities, exploration, interactive games and a project (515-5367).
