Red Rock Canyon: On Wednesday, take an easy 1-mile hike through the Discovery Plaza and part of the Moenkopi Trail to learn what desert animals do in the summer; geared to school-aged children. On June 12, take an easy 3-mile hike to three springs to see birds, burros, wildflowers and a historic ranch; for ages 6 and older.

Mount Charleston: On Friday, go on a moderate 3-mile hike that incorporates parts of three popular trails in Kyle Canyon — Echo Trail, Cathedral Rock and South Loop. The terrain is hilly with some altitude on the South Loop; for ages 12 and older.

Around The Bend Friends: This group of people older than 50, interested in hiking and related social activities, plans a three- to four-hour moderate hike each Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m. To learn more about the group and the meeting place for hikes, call 228-0773 or visit the club’s website, www. aroundthebendfriends.com.

OTHER PROGRAMS

Red Rock Canyon: On Monday, view a tabletop presentation at the visitors center on the ways animals have learned to live with each other. On Friday, volunteer for a canyon cleanup project. On Saturday, Junior Naturalists will learn about the Mojave Desert at the visitors center; for ages 2-6. On June 12, a tabletop presentation at the visitors center will explain why the park’s rocks are red.

Archaeo-Nevada Society, along with the Bureau of Land Management, seeks volunteers to help with Red Rock Canyon conservation projects. Visit www.archaeonevada.org.
