HIKES

Red Rock Canyon: On Monday, learn about geology and nature on a moderate, 3-mile hike to the Calico Tanks; for ages 12 and older. Also on Monday, look for nocturnal animals on a moderate, 2½-mile hike along First Creek; for ages 10 and older. On Wednesday, seek out migrating birds on a moderate, 2- to 3-mile hike at Red Spring; for ages 12 and older. On Friday, view colorful rock formations on an easy-to-moderate, 3-mile hike at Calico Basin. On Oct. 9, see birds and plants on an easy-to-moderate, 4-mile hike to Lone Grapevine Spring.

Around the Bend Friends: This group of people 50 and older who are involved in hiking and related social activities plans several hikes each week of various difficulty levels, including an easy-to-moderate social hike on Saturdays. OTHER PROGRAMS

Red Rock Canyon: On Monday, learn about the animals of Red Rock in a tabletop exhibit from 1:30 to 2 p.m. at the Visitor Center. On Tuesday, living and preserved species of venomous animals will be on display from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Visitor Center. On Saturday, kids ages 2 to 7 can learn about vertebrates through stories, activities, music and a craft.
