HIKES
Red Rock Canyon: On Monday, join a geologist to discuss the geological features, plants and animals encountered on a moderate, 2½-mile hike along the La Madre Fault and the cross-bedded Jurassic Aztec Sandstone out to Mushroom Rock; for ages 10 and older. On Wednesday, go for a moderate, 2½-mile hike that will explore the day-to-day challenges the native Paiute people had to overcome to survive in the harsh Mojave Desert, including how they used plants in the area to make clothing and shelter; for ages 10 and older. On May 20, come along on the Keystone Thrust Fault geology and nature hike, a moderately strenuous, two-mile outing.

Around the Bend Friends: This group of people 50 and older who are involved in hiking and related social activities plans several hikes each week of various difficulty levels, including an easy-to-moderate social hike on Saturdays. Red Rock Canyon: On Tuesday, join a park ranger for a presentation on bats, then go to Red Spring to observe them in action; for ages 15 and older. Also on Tuesday, view some of the archaeological features found in Red Rock, or create a masterpiece in an art class for ages 15 and older.
