Radio station invites man on show after he calls to say he’s missing his wife
Hosts from a BBC radio station invited a man in for a cup of coffee after he called to tell them he was missing his wife.
BBC Radio Solent host Alex Dyke spoke to Bill, a 95-year-old listener who said he was “feeling lonely” after his wife had gone into a nursing home, Mashable reported. Dyke then invited the man to have coffee with them at the station.
“We sent a cab to pick him up,” the station explained in a Facebook post.
Bill, who lives in Southampton, England, got married to his wife last year.
“We knew each other for 30 odd years and she needed a carer and I took over the role of carer,” he said. “Then it became so involved we decided we’d get married.”
Bill said his wife was hospitalized and sent to a nursing home after falling. He said he visits her at the home every day.
“You’ve got no idea how sorry I am.”
As he walked into the on-air room, Dykes greeted the invitee with a hug. The two then shared coffee, and Bill also spoke with him on the air.
