Spanish film series continues
“Cine en el Centro,” a monthly series of Spanish-language films, continues Nov. 15 with “My Family” at the East Las Vegas Community/Senior Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave.
Series curator Luis Bonilla will introduce the film at 6:30 p.m. and lead a discussion (in Spanish) following the screening.
“My Family,” which introduced Jennifer Lopez in her first major film role, follows the Sanchez family through three generations, beginning in the 1930s when a young couple emigrated from Mexico to East Los Angeles. As the eldest son, James Edward Olmos provides the narration of the family’s struggles, tribulations and triumphs. Jimmy Smits and Esai Morales add strong performances as rebellious sons. The 1995 film was directed by Gregory Nava and carries an R rating.
