‘The Mummy’ returns again

The movie: “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor”

When: Opening Friday at local theaters

The cast: • Brendan Fraser, Maria Bello, John Hannah, Russell Wong, Michelle Yeoh

The director: Rob Cohen

The story: Globe-trotting Rick O’Connell (Brendan Fraser), his archaeologist wife Evelyn (Maria Bello, replacing Rachel Weisz), their now-grown son Alex (Luke Ford) and Evy’s bumbling brother Jonathan (John Hannah) head to China to take on a resurrected Chinese emperor (martial arts whiz Jet Li) and China’s terra-cotta army come to life.

The buzz: It’s the third “Mummy” go-round for Fraser, but “The Fast and the Furious” director Rob Cohen, taking over from Stephen Sommers, really has a thing for dragons — or at least movies with the word “Dragon” in the title — considering his prior credits include 1993’s “Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story” and 1996’s “Dragonheart.”
