One person died Friday morning when a recreational vehicle burst into flames in the front yard of a central Las Vegas home, marking the first fatal fire of the year investigated by the Las Vegas Fire Department.
The blaze, which destroyed the RV, broke out around 4:50 a.m. at 701 Sunny Place, near West Bonanza Road and North Martin Luther King Boulevard, according to the Fire Department.
Clark County property records show that the home where the RV was parked is owned by James Ray Gray.
“We were dispatched to smoke in the area,” James Suarez, battalion chief for the department, said Friday. “When we arrived, we had a fully involved RV.”
Within a matter of minutes, Suarez said, firefighters had extinguished the blaze and entered the RV, where they found the body.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation Friday by the Fire Department and the Metropolitan Police Department’s homicide section, which is standard for fatal fires.
The Clark County coroner’s office will release the victim’s identity after relatives are notified, as well as determine the official cause and manner of death.
