Metro officers arrested two people they said fired a weapon and barricaded themselves in their home after a manager at a senior apartment complex tried to serve an eviction notice Friday.
Roy Diggs, 78, and Blossome Diggs, 81, are facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon on a protected person and misdemeanor contempt of court, Las Vegas police said. They were booked into the Clark County Detention Center.
The incident, which restricted traffic on Lake Mead Boulevard between Tonopah Drive and Simmons Street, began about 8:40 p.m. at Lake Tonopah Apartments in the 2100 block of Citrus Hills Avenue, police said.
The building manager went to the unit, occupied by the couple, to serve the eviction letter, police said. Roy Diggs then fired multiple shots. No one was hurt.
The two were taken into custody just before 1 p.m., police said.
Las Vegas police established a perimeter around the area and evacuated surrounding apartments.
West Preparatory Institute for Academic Excellence, 2050 Saphire Stone Ave., was locked down, the Clark County School District said.
