Brush fire extinguished near Mountain Springs summit

Clark County firefighters responded to a brush fire on the Las Vegas side of the Mountain Springs summit, according to the department’s fire alarm site.

Firefighters responded to the fire at 4 p.m. on state Route 160, according to the site.

A segment of one westbound lane of state Route 160 was closed briefly several miles west of state Route 159, according to a witness.

A man with a concrete business pulled over and tried to use a hose from his truck to put the fire out, but the wind carried the flames and he ran out of water. Residents from the mountain used rakes and shovels to try to extinguish the fire, but were also unsuccessful.

Firefighters arrived about 4:20 p.m. and extinguished the fire on arrival, according to Clark County Deputy Fire Chief Kelly Blackmon.
