City’s nonunion employees get merit raises

Things must be looking up for the city of Las Vegas’ finances because City Manager Betsy Fretwell recently authorized merit increases or a one-time bonus for nonunion employees, those who are appointive and executive staffers.

The week of July 14, Fretwell authorized a 3 percent merit pool for each department, city spokeswoman Diana Paul said.

About 270 nonunion employees were eligible get a merit increase or a one-time bonus. The two numbers overlap, meaning some employees received both.

The base pay merit increase went to 189 people, and 96 employees received a lump-sum bonus.

The merit increases totaled $570,621; the bonuses totaled $264,407.

The $570,621 represents an average salary increase of less than 2 percent and the $264,407 represents an average bonus of less than 1 percent, according to Paul.

Fretwell recently was granted a 10 percent salary increase. Her new salary will be $221,490. Fretwell hadn’t had a raise between 2009 until 2013.
