Coroner IDs man who died after altercation near UNLV

A man who died June 27 after an altercation at an apartment complex near the University of Nevada, Las Vegas was identified Saturday by the Clark County coroner’s office.

Demario James Keyes, 37, of Oakland, Calif., was armed with a knife the night of June 27 when he approached a group of people at the Andover Place Apartments, 1600 Rochelle Ave., near the intersection of Maryland Parkway and Flamingo Road, police said.

The group was able to “subdue” Keyes before police arrived. He was unknown to the group of people, a Metro spokesman said two days after Keyes’ death.

Keyes was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he died.

His cause and manner of death were not available Saturday, the coroner’s office said.
