County marks third annual International Migratory Bird Day — PHOTOS

The event. centered at the Clark County Wetlands Park Nature Center in the Nature Preserve, 7050 Wetlands Park Lane, “celebrates and brings attention to bird migration,” a Clark County news release said.

Clark County Parks and Recreation spokeswoman Crystalaura Jackson said the event aims to bring awareness to issues facing migratory birds and conservation and to engage families in nature.

The event was coordinated to coincide with spring break, intended as a “great opportunity” for families to “get out and experience nature from a certain perspective,” Jackson said.

This was the third annual event in connection with the Environment for Americas, which has hosted annual events for 26 years, Jackson said. The group has more than “700 events planned in 2016” in many countries, she said, and Wednesday’s event commemorated the 100th anniversary of the Migratory Birds Treaty in 1916.

Events at the park included an interactive environment map of the United States— measuring 26 feet by 35 feet— interactive wingspan exhibits, nature walks and live raptor presentations, including a kestrel.

In all, 411 people showed up for the event, a 43 percent increase from 2015, Jackson said.
