Literary Las Vegas: Monica Hatley-Carr

North Las Vegas author/illustrator Monica Hatley-Carr takes readers on an adventure where more than the glasses are rose-colored.

In “I Love the Color Pink! The Adventures of Laci Macasey,” Hatley-Carr’s pint-size protagonist is so in love with her favorite color she wishes the whole world could be pink. With the help of a fairy’s magical blink, Laci’s wish is granted, and she loves it … for a while.

Hatley-Carr, who based the character on her niece, is eager to share her book with children in an effort to encourage early literacy and summer reading. She plans to meet with young readers and give a drawing lesson at 2 p.m. Aug. 10 at the 567 N. Stephanie St. Barnes & Noble and from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Aug. 13 at the Aliante Library, 2400 Deer Springs Way.

Excerpt:

When I opened the door, I did a double blink. I couldn’t believe everything in the world turned pink!

I saw pink grass, even a pink tree. I even saw a pink bird singing at me.
