ENROLLMENT ASSISTANCE TO BE AVAILABLE FOR AFFORDABLE CARE ACT

The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District is partnering with East Valley Family Services to provide information and enrollment sessions at several libraries for the Affordable Care Act, commonly called Obamacare.

A session is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road, where enrollment assistance is set to be available.

Nevada enrollment for health plans began in October and closes March 2014.

‘WELCOME TO LAS VEGAS’ SIGN TO RUN ON SOLAR ENERGY

The Clark County Commission approved a plan to install three solar trees near the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign on Las Vegas Boulevard South.

the Clean Energy Project, a Las Vegas-based nonprofit that promotes the benefits of a clean energy-based economy, in partnership with Green Chips, a public/private partnership that advances environmental sustainability initiatives, are set to lead the effort to convert the sign to solar power.

A groundbreaking for the project is planned this fall, and the project is scheduled to be completed this year.

VALLEY HEALTH SYSTEM RECOGNIZED BY LGBT HEALTH CARE GROUP

The Valley Health System has been named a Leader in LGBT Healthcare Equality in the Healthcare Equality Index 2013, an annual survey conducted by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, the educational arm of the country’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization.

Recipients of the title must meet criteria for equitable care, including nondiscrimination policies for LGBT patients and employees, a guarantee of equal visitation for same-sex partners and parents and LGBT health education for key staff members.

EDUCATIONAL FORUM PLANNED FOR SENIORS

LUNCHEONS TO FEATURE OKTOBERFEST THEME

An Oktoberfest Luncheon for seniors 50 or older is scheduled at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 14 at Las Vegas Senior Center, 451 E. Bonanza Road. The cost is $5.
