The Rock the Walk fundraiser for JDRF (formerly known as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) is scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Springs Preserve, 333 S. Valley View Blvd.

The walk includes dinner, wine and a performance by Christy Molasky &the Music Junkies. The family-friendly event supports the Nevada chapter of JDRF and its efforts to raise awareness of Type 1 diabetes and funding for a cure.

PROGRAMS TO OFFER INFORMATION FOR CAREGIVERS

The Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health, 888 W. Bonneville Avenue, announced its September schedule for caregiver programming.

All programs are designed for family members and professional caregivers. The next event is Strategies to Cope with Difficult Behaviors, planned from noon to 1 p.m. Sept. 11.

REGISTRATION OPEN THROUGH SEPTEMBER FOR JUNIOR MASTER GARDNER PROGRAM

Registration for the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension’s Junior Master Gardener program is open through September.

The classes, for children ages 7-12, are scheduled from 9 a.m.to noon on alternate Saturdays beginning Sept. 14 at the Outdoor Education Center, 8050 Paradise Road. The fee is $50 for the semester. At the end of the fall semester, students are set to receive a certificate and a pin.

TOWING COMPANY SEEKS DONATED VEHICLES TO ASSIST VETERANS

Las Vegas-based Titan Towing announced the launch of a program to pick up unwanted vehicles from anywhere in the valley for free and donate the fair market value of the vehicle to Veterans Village Las Vegas.

Veterans Village, 1150 Las Vegas Blvd. South, serves as a temporary housing facility for U.S. veterans and their families and provides services to help veterans heal and succeed.

Titan Towing will accept running and nonrunning vehicles.

FOOD AND NUTRITION PROGRAM PLANNED

A free eight-week bilingual food and nutrition education program is scheduled 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays beginning Sept. 17 at the Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road.

The class is set to be taught by instructors from the University Of Nevada Cooperative Extension and is set to cover meal planning, shopping, cooking, food safety and budgeting.

There will be an opportunity in each class to sample recipes and receive a free educational gift to help attendees practice new skills at home.

ONCOLOGY NUTRITION CLASSES SCHEDULED

A free oncology nutrition class is scheduled from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Breast Center at Sunrise, 3006 S. Maryland Parkway, Suite 250.

The class is set to teach cancer survivors and their loved ones about healthy eating after a cancer diagnosis.

UNITED WAY ACCEPTS CHECK FOR $60,000

Citi recently presented United Way of Southern Nevada with a check for $60,000 to help fund its initiatives.

Las Vegas Healthy Communities Coalition, anchored by the United Way of Southern Nevada, will also gain from the donation.

SHRINERS HOSPITALS FOR CHILDREN PLANS ACTIVITIES

Shriners Hospitals for Children plans to host the FedEx Cup PGA Tour and related events Oct. 12-21 at TPC Summerlin, 1700 Village Center Circle.

The schedule is set to begin with the Las Vegas Golf Hall of Fame induction ceremony at 6 p.m. Oct. 12, followed the next day by the Goodie Two Shoes Foundation’s Rockin’ Walk from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Participants can choose from three walking courses.

The Women’s Day: Third Annual Kick Off Your Heels Luncheon is planned from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 15. The Championship Pro Am is slated for Oct. 16, when PGA Tour professionals will join Pro Am players as they compete at TPC Summerlin.

The tournament is set for Oct. 17-20. The Tough Day Challenge is planned for 7 a.m., and the 12:30 p.m. shotgun is set to start Oct. 21.
