Early morning fire displaces 7 in downtown Las Vegas, ruled an arson
A Tuesday morning apartment fire in downtown Las Vegas has been ruled an arson, the Las Vegas Fire Department said Tuesday afternoon.
Flames and smoke were showing from two windows of a second-story apartment at 133 S. 15th Street, near Carson Avenue, when firefighters arrived just after 6 a.m., the Fire Department said in a release.
The fire was confined to one unit of the two-story, four-apartment building and was extinguished about 6:30 a.m., the Fire Department said.
Two bedrooms were gutted, the apartment directly below had minor water damage and the other two units in the building had a smoke odor, the fire department said. Damage was estimated at $15,000.
Fire investigators believe the fire was intentionally set.
The occupant of the apartment was not there when firefighters arrived and is considered a person of interest in the fire, investigators said.
Seven adults lived in the apartment building. The Red Cross of Southern Nevada was working Tuesday afternoon to see how many people could return to the apartments that were not damaged, the fire department said. A number of displaced persons was not available Tuesday evening.
No one was injured in the fire.
